Creating and Managing Special Diets

This screen contains settings for Care Plan Setup for Special Diets. You can

  • select from a database of special diets.

  • add and edit customized special diet names.

  • create minimum and maximum Nutrients Rules by day or meal.

  • establish lists of suitable and unsuitable menu items.

Note

Special Diets are shared across Essentials, Menus, and Recipes and Production and changes update all facilities within the organization.

Note

You can copy unsuitable menu items for 1 special diet to another special diet. This reduces the manual time and effort associated with setting this up.

  1. Administrator > Care Plan Setup > Special Diets.

  2. Click Special Diet.

  • My Special Diets - Click Special Diet to make changes. You can edit the name or add custom special diets by renaming the Custom Special Diet options at the bottom of the list.

  •  Active - Select special diets you use in the organization.

  • ONR (Ordering Not Required) - When selected, residents with an ONR special diet in their diet order do not appear in Unfed Residents or Meal Orders lists.

  • Tray Ticket Note (Menus enabled) - Type a note, as needed. The note shows in meal ordering screen and on the resident's meal ticket when the special diet is assigned to their diet order.

  • Nutrients - Click Rules to add Nutrients Rules for main nutrients, vitamins, or minerals for the selected Special Diet. When nutrients rules are defined, validation occurs on various screens and reports throughout Nutrition Management to indicate if nutrient values are too low or high for a Special Diet.

  • Copy - Select the special diet name then click Copy to copy all unsuitable menu items saved for this special diet to another special diet that is similar.

  • Change - Select the special diet name, then click Change to add or remove suitable or unsuitable menu items from a special diet.

  • You can print a list of special diet names and unsuitable or suitable menu items by selecting the special diet and choosing the appropriate option under Print Report.

  • Show Unused provides a list of special diets that are not used in any resident chart.

  • You can place a meal order for a resident on an ONR special diet by going to Order Manager > Resident Search. Search and select resident to navigate to Meal Ordering.

  • After creating, copying, or editing a special diet, run the Unsuitable or Suitable Menu Items reports to verify your work.
